The Board of the Edmonton Chapter of JDRF has established a project to seek provincial government financial support for insulin pump therapy to Albertans with type 1 diabetes who are 18 years old and under. This project has progressed to the point where your help is being sought to build support by MLA’s for the program and to rally support in the community. We want to have families of children with diabetes visit or write to every MLA in the province with your stories of how diabetes affects your lives and the benefits of using an insulin pump to manage the disease. A full copy of the project is available here. Addendums include information on other provinces’/territories’ coverage, information on how to find your MLA’s contact information, and a copy of a letter sent from another parent. Medical care should not be limited based on financial means! Follow the development and journey of the canvas by joining the Facebook group Juvenile Diabetes – Let’s Make it History.

Juvenile Diabetes – Let’s Make it History
This art project is the vision of Edmonton artist, Anatoli Morgotch. It involves painting a picture in acrylics on a 36” x 48” canvas to raise funds for children battling type 1 diabetes. The painting will be created by 100 people, from ages 1 to 100, both those who with diabetes and those who care about them. It does not require an amazing talent – it only requires an amazing heart and a belief that a cure is possible!

The “What is Diabetes” video was made possible through the generous funding of Ronald McDonald’s Charities and the dedication and commitment of those who live with this disease on a daily basis. It is a great tool for use with family members or schools to show what it is like to live with diabetes. For more information or to get your free copy of “What is Diabetes”, contact us at (780) 428-0343.
JDRF Tribute Program/Victory Club
The JDRF Tribute Program offers friends and families thoughtful, caring ways to recognize or remember that “special someone”. There are three ways you can give:
In Memorial Donations: In lieu of flowers many individuals feel more content in making a difference by donating to charity. Mail in your donation or donate over the phone and our staff will be sure to send a thoughtful card to the mourning family to let them know the thoughtfulness you share.
In Honorarium Donations: In lieu of gifts, ask your family and friends to donate to JDRF. They can either mail in their donation or donate by phone and our staff will send you a thoughtful card letting you know who shares your passion for finding a cure.
Be sure to clearly state or write the name of the person in whose honour or memory you are donating. Indicate who should receive notification of your gift (for example, surviving family member).
The Victory Club is the easiest way to show how much you care. Without the monthly hassle of writing cheques, your membership enables JDRF to withdraw a pre-authorized monthly donation from your chequing account or credit card. Your donation of as little as $10 a month will add up over the year to be a substantial contribution, and a welcome ray of hope to the millions suffering from diabetes. To donate go to www.jdrf.ca; selection Support JDRF from the top menu line and then click on Make a Donation from the drop-down menu. Finally select Victory Club from the list to the left of the screen.
